Photographer's Ephemeris - Software

Postby ebkw on Sun Nov 01, 2009 7:51 am

All the landscape photographers may know about this software program already but for those who don't

Photographer's Ephemeris lets you figure out if sunrise, sunset and moonrise and set will be where you want to be photographing. It will let you figure out when the best time of year would be to get the shots you envision. This makes planning a whole lot easier and its FREE!

I heard from Steven back in May & he did mention that he was going to be working on a version for the iPhone. I'm hoping he does that. In the mean time, I've been using (heavily) Focalware.
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZSt ... 90222&mt=8
With it, I can select my current location or input any other location and see the sunrise/set, moonrise/set times. I don't trust the compass on my iPhone, so I orient my phone with a real compass and then just grab the sun or moon to see where it will be above the horizon at any time of the day. It also shows the shadow length and the elevation (in degrees) of the sun at any time, and the moon phase (in percentage of being full) and it's elevation at any time. The app is very easy to use and is $9.99.
I'll be publishing an article today on the iPhone apps I use for photography.

Eleanor,

Thanks for posting the link, TPE is just great, and a great tool for teaching others about the finer points of landscape planning.
